Amtmandens, bakrommet (Industry area)
Sápmi is a growing hub for Indigenous film production in the Arctic, and films from Sápmi are attracting the international film business as never before. International Sámi Film Institute (ISFI) is driving this momentous change by collaborating with international partners such as Netflix, the Oscar Academy, and creating new opportunities for the Sámi film industry. ISFI is also the main supporter of several award-winning films.
Since Nils Gaup’s “Pathfinder” (1987), there has only been a hand-full of Sámi feature films. Sámi filmmakers are now finally defining their own story narratives with a record number of new feature film and series productions coming soon.
WORKS IN PROGRESS
What has accelerated this enormous shift and what stories can we expect to see in the coming years? In this work in progress-session we present nine Sámi projects in different stages of development, all presented by the lead creatives.
The presentation will be split into two sessions with a short break between, and moderated by Anne Lajla Utsi and Liisa Holmberg from the International Sámi Film Institute.
