After a hot Joachim Trier summer, we’ve headed straight into a Joachim Trier autumn. The director has long established himself as one of the most distinctive voices in Nordic cinema, and is now touring the world with his new film THE VALUE OF AFFECTION. But before that came THE WORST PERSON IN THE WORLD – the film that captured a whole generation with its precise and poetic portrait of love, time and identity.
Now, the Tromsø International Film Festival comes to campus to screen THE WORST PERSON IN THE WORLD on the big screen – free for all students. Light food and drinks will be served.
TIFF is more than a festival week in January – it’s part of Tromsø’s pulse. For many, the festival is a much-needed break in the middle of winter: a place to meet people, share experiences, and be moved by stories that leave a mark. TIFF is about curiosity, courage, and the power of film to open new perspectives. When we set up the screen at KRAFT, it’s to share a taste of that same magic.

About the film
In THE WORST PERSON IN THE WORLD, we meet Julie (Renate Reinsve) – restless, searching, and full of life, yet unsure who she really is. She throws herself in and out of studies, relationships, and choices, trying to find somewhere to belong. The film follows her through twelve chapters – small life episodes that together form a striking portrait of a person in motion.

Joachim Trier and Eskil Vogt capture the awkward, funny, and brutally honest moments of young adulthood. A dinner with the wrong people, a dance that lets everything go, a glance from a stranger – it all matters. Trier observes human behaviour with rare precision, allowing us to recognise ourselves in Julie’s longing, missteps, and flashes of clarity.
Renate Reinsve won Best Actress at Cannes for her performance, and together with Anders Danielsen Lie and Herbert Nordrum she forms one of the most vivid love triangles in recent cinema. THE WORST PERSON IN THE WORLD is at once romantic and existential, light and heavy, funny and devastating – a reminder of how absurd, fragile, and wonderful it is to be human.
