Call for entries: Films from the North 2025!

We have now opened the submission for our most popular side bar!

Films from the North is the festival's program for films from the Barents Region and other circumpolar areas, running for the 25th year.

Films from the North is constantly expanding: It now comprises the entire Arctic region, and feature length films as well as the original line up of shorts and documentaries. The audience favors our northern selection, with well more than 9000 tickets sold at the latest edition. The impressive growth in quality as well as quantity, spurred us to establish a new competition to honor the directors and further strengthen the program.

The Tromsø Palm for best feature film was installed in 2024, and the competitions first winner was JE'VIDA by Katja Gauriloff.

We have now opened for submissions. Feature films as well as shorts and documentaries are eligible. Films are qualified if the subject, the production or the director is connected to Sápmi, northern Norway, Sweden, Finland, Russia and Canada, as well as Alaska, Iceland and Greenland. See further specifications in the guidelines below.

Selected films can be presented in or out of competition. Tromsøpalmen (The Tromsø Palm) is awarded to the best short film and best feature film in competition, along with a prize of 5000 Euro to the film’s director.

- The submission deadline is October 18, 2024.
- Filmmakers should expect feedback on their submissions by late November.
