Films from the North has been a part of TIFF for more than 20 years and is the festival's most popular sidebar program. The program is for films produced in or connected to the Barents region. For a long time the program was only for short films and documentaries under 60 minutes, but in 2019 the program also opened to include feature films.

Films from the North has its own award, the Tromsø Palm, which is presented to the best film (under 60 mins) in competition. The winning film is awarded a diploma plus 5000 Euros to its director.

We have now opened for submissions to our 2022 festival. We encourage all filmmakers to read the guidelines before submitting, ensuring that your film is eligable. Submission deadline is October 20 and the selected films will be announed in the beginning of December.
