The award winning performance “03:08:38 - States of Emergency” to kick-off TIFF 2022

Tromsø International Film Festival together with Hålogaland Teater presents 03:08:38 - STATES OF EMERGENCY by Tore Vagn Lid and Transiteatret-Bergen. With two performances on the 15th and 16th of January the award winning performance will kick-off the 32nd annual film festival.

3 hours, 8 minutes and 38 seconds was the time it took a young man to blow up a Norwegian government building and then execute people at a social democratic summer camp for youth, killing 77 people in total. How did the world react? What was said outside of Norway? How did different socities, different people react in the midst of this state of emergency? When no one knew the full extent, cause or motivation, and speculations were all over the place. What does a state of emergency like this reveal about the political reflex in our society, about ourselves as politically acting individuals - both then and now? 

03:08:38 - STATES OF EMERGENCY is sort of a film being made, and broadcasted live at the same time. It is a reconstruction of the afternoon on July 22nd 2011, presented in real time and based upon actual radio broadcasts, and audio recordings from that day. Second by second, a team of visual artists, filmmakers and musicians work with our understanding of that shattering afternoon.

03:08:38 - STATES OF EMERGENCY was awarded two "Hedda awards" and received the "Oslo Prize" for performance art of the year 2020.

The performance in Tromsø is an experiment in the borderland between film and performing arts, broadcasted live from Hålogaland teater and TIFF to "listening posts" with a live audience in Moscow, New York and Bagdad.
