Here Are This Year's Award Winners!

On Saturday evening, the winners of TIFF 2025 were announced during the closing ceremony at the Kulturhuset in Tromsø. A total of 7 awards were presented from the stage before the festival's closing film, A COMPLETE UNKOWN by James Mangold.

AURORA AWARD

The festival's main prize is awarded to the best film in the competition program. The director of the winning film receives NOK 50 000 from TIFF.

This year's jury: Iram Haq, Sean Price Williams, Vasil Gjurovski

Winner: Happy Holidays. Country: Palestine, Germany, France, Italy, Qatar. Year: 2024. Director: Scandar Copti.

FIPRESCI AWARD

The international critic prize, awarded by the Federation Internationale de la Presse Cinématographique, the international umbrella organization of professional film critics and film journalists, established in 1930.

This year's jury: Amber Wilkinson, Hélène Robert, Jan Storø.

Winner: Love. Country: Norway. Year: 2024. Director: Dag Johan Haugerud.

DON QUIXOTE AWARD

The prize is awarded by FICC (Federation internationale des cine-clubs). The organization was founded in 1947 at the Cannes Film Festival, and is an umbrella organization for film societies and non-commercial cinemas.

This year's jury: Mike Murphy, Maciej Gil Eva-Maria Schneider-Reuter.

Winner: Holy Cow. Country: France. Year: 2024. Director: Louise Courvoisier.

Honorable mention: Gaucho Gaucho. Country: USA, Argentina. Year: 2024. Director: Michael Dweck and Gregory Kershaw.

NORWEGIAN PEACE FILM AWARD (NoFPA)

The Norwegian Peace Film Award (NoPFA) is given to a film spotlighting direct, structural or cultural violence, and which in a creative way contributes to a deeper understanding of conflicts and violence. The award is presented by TIFF in collaboration with the Centre for Peace Studies at the University of Tromsø and the Student Network for Peace.

This year's jury: Andrea White Hveding, Alexis Pineda Angeles, Marc Lanteigne.

Winner: The Seed of the Sacred Fig. Country: Germany, France, Iran. Year: 2024. Director: Mohammad Raoulof.

THE TROMSØ PALM - SHORTS

The Tromsø Palk is awarded to the best short film (under 60 minutes) in the side program Films from the North. The director of the winning film receives 5000 euros from film resource centers in the Barents region.

This year's jury: Volker Kufahl, Elisabeth Rasmussen, Endre Lund Eriksen.

Winner: In My Hand. Country: Norway, Sweden, Finland. Year: 2025. Director: Liselotte Wajstedt and Marja Helander.

THE TROMSØ PALM - FEATURES

In 2019, Films from the North expanded to include feature films in the section. This year marks the first time a separate prize is awarded for the best feature film in the Film from the North side program. The director of the winning film receives 2500 Euro from TIFF.

This year's jury: Þóra Ingólfsdóttir, Katja Gauriloff, Morten Røsrud.

Winner: Teenage Life Interrupted. Country: Norway. Year: 2025. Director: Åse Svenheim Drivenes.

FAITH IN FILM AWARD

The Faith in Film Award was given for the first time in 2017. It was established by Center for Art, Culture and Church, Norwegian Church Academies and Tromsø Church Academy in collaboration with the Tromsø International Film Festival.

The winner film should engage and stimulate to reflection and critical thinking about the religion’s place in society and in people’s lives.

The winner of the Faith in Film Award receives a hand-painted icon, made in the Carmelite monastary in Tromsø.

This year's jury: Mette Arnstad, Aslaug Eidsvik, Carl Axel Reibo Gundersen.

Winner: When Fall is Coming. Country: France. Year: 2024. Director: François Ozon

The audience winner for the Tromsø International Film Festival will be announced on Monday, January 22nd.
