This year's outdoor cinema will be at Vervet!
Due to the ongoing work happening in Storgata, it is not possible for TIFF to have our outdoor screenings at Stortorget this January. Therefore, the festival has had to look for a new arena. The solution was found at Vervet.

Before Christmas last year TIFF got to test having outdoor screenings at Vervet, and were very pleased with the results.
-It is really exciting that we will be screening films throughout the festival week at the old Verftstomta. Our partner Vervet met us with great enthusiasm when we asked them to host the outdoor cinema in January. And with our previous good excperience with the outdoor cinema, we know that Slipptorget is a beautiful setting for film screenings, says TIFF's Marketing Manager Cathrine Steene.
Last year's screening was a collaboration between TIFF, Julebyen Troms (Christmas Town Tromsø) and Vervet. The festival is looking forward to repeating the collaboration with Vervet during the festival in January.
One of the most important venues
For years, the festival has screened free outdoor films to everyone in Tromsø. In the morning, there are screenings for children, and in the afternoon, there are screenings for the rest of the population. This ensures that everyone has the opportunity to experience the magic of the festival.
-The outdoor cinema is one of the most important venues we have, says Festival Director Lisa Hoen. - It is a venue that contributes to inclusion, as everyone has the opportunity to participate. During the pandemic, we had particularly good experiences with the outdoor cinema, as it was a virus-free venue where people could gather and enjoy the festival experience.
Every year, TIFF invites all kindergartens and schools to the outdoor cinema, something the festival is very happy to continue. Around 3500 children participated in the outdoor cinema last year, and for many, this is their first encounter with a cinema and a film festival. Therefore, it is important to have a good venue that showcases what TIFF is.
Everyone should find the way
-We believe the audience will love this year's outdoor cinema, even though it won't be at Stortorget, says Steene.
The festival will make sure that everyone finds the way to the new venue at Vervet, and the festival team is working to create a smooth transition in this shift. The goal is for everyone, both old and new festival participants, to feel welcome at this year's outdoor cinema. In the end, there's just one thing to remember:
