Natatorium is a nerve-wracking suspense drama that delves into trauma, family bonds, and the blurred boundaries between love and control.
Eighteen-year-old Lilja visits her estranged grandparents, Áróra and Grímur, while preparing for an audition with an international art group. Despite a warm welcome, her grandmother's strange rituals, unsettling family dynamics, and a mysterious swimming pool in the basement reveal a darker truth. When Lilja's father and aunt voice concerns about her stay, a family celebration spirals into a tragedy that uncovers life-changing secrets.
Set in Áróra and Grímur's grand but claustrophobic mansion, combined with hypnotic cinematography and an eerie atmospheric soundtrack, Natatorium conjures a chilling exploration of intergenerational trauma. Debut director Helena Stefánsdóttir delivers a dreamlike and unsettling tale that captivates its audience.
