A cat is caught off guard by a massive tidal wave and must flee its home. Along the way, it encounters other animals, including dogs, birds, and others that cats would usually be wary of. Cats prefer to manage on their own, but now everyone must work together to survive the flood. How will it end?
Flow, an animated film from Latvia directed by Gints Zilbalodis, follows a black cat, a yellow Labrador, a capybara, a lemur, and a secretary bird in a world transformed by a catastrophic flood. While humans are absent, traces of their presence remain—a deserted house with a sketch of the cat, underwater ruins, and abandoned ships hint at a lost civilization. The setting feels more mystical than post-apocalyptic, with nature reclaiming control.
As the water rises, the cat, previously isolated, is forced to cooperate with others to survive. This is a beautiful film about friendship, unity, and courage. Flow, Latvia’s Oscar submission for Best International Film, combines timeless storytelling with stunning animation, offering a poignant reflection on the resilience of life.
