Memory of Princess Mumbi

Watch trailer

Memory of Princess Mumbi portrays a love triangle between a filmmaker, a princess, and a prince, in which AI is a central element. A timeless love story set in a futuristic African country.

The year is 2093. Kuve travels to the village of Umata to make a documentary about war veterans who fought in the war against addictive technology. There, he meets Mumbi, a young actress who is cast in front of the camera. But when Kuve wants to use AI to make the veterans appear sadder than they are, Mumbi refuses. She challenges Kuve to tell the true story. What begins as heated discussions about authenticity, creativity, and technology quickly develops into an all-consuming romance. However, when it turns out that Mumbi's fate is predetermined, their love is put to the test. Mumbi is a princess who, upon turning 21, is destined to marry a prince.

Memory of Princess Mumbi blends genres, moving from a mockumentary-like style behind the scenes of the documentary to striking cinematic visuals that emphasize the futuristic environment. The film discusses the use of artificial intelligence in film production, but ironically, it is the deeply human element that primarily emerges in this warm love letter. The film is a beautiful, modern fable that questions what is real and authentic in an increasingly technologized world.
