How can one find lasting love in today's world? Set in London and Lahore, this charming and colorful romantic comedy challenges preconceived notions and attempts to answer this age-old question.
Zoe (Lily James), a documentary filmmaker, decides to make a film about her childhood friend and neighbor Kaz (Shazad Latif), who is about to enter into an arranged marriage. She’s a cynic about romance, having experienced an endless stream of frogs in her search for a prince, much to the dismay of her eccentric mother (Emma Thompson). As Zoe films Kaz’s hopeful journey to Lahore to marry a woman who was chosen for him by his parents, she begins to wonder if she might have something to learn from this fundamentally different approach to finding love.
What’s Love Got To Do With It? is an energetic and sparkling romantic comedy that compares two very different approaches to finding love, blending in plenty of family drama and touching moments. It is directed by Shekhar Kapur, known for his Oscar-nominated Elizabeth (1998). Jemima Khan’s screenplay deals with documentary filmmaking, dating apps, and finding a partner through «assisted marriage». Lily James and Shazad Latif have wonderful chemistry, making this film hard not to love.
Shekhar Kapur (b. 1945) is an Indian filmmaker and actor. Kapur is the recipient of several accolades in addition to nominations for a BAFTA Award and a Golden Globe Award. He achieved international prominence with the 1998 period film Elizabeth, which was nominated for seven Academy Awards.
