"Talks of the North" builds a bridge between the silver screen and the public debate. Tromsø International Film Festival invites, together with iTromsø, UiT The Arctic University of Norway and Samfunnsløftet, to a series of talks based on one or more of this year's festival films.
The documentary film The Coastal Warrior has its world premiere at TIFF 2023. The film portrays Ottar Brox, a researcher and politician who was concerned with decentralization and held that resources must be utilized along the coast where people live. The Films from the North program also includes the short film Mermaid, about Sisilie Skagen who has taken over her father's fishing vessel. In this conversation, we will talk about the coast, the fish and the future. What role should the coastal communities play in the management of what is a major export industry?
In the panel:
Hans Eirik Voktor - director of The Coastal Warrior
Sisilie Skagen - fisher and co-star in the short documentary Mermaid
Svein Ove Haugland - director of Norges Råfisklag
Stine Akselsen - director of industry and trade, The Norwegian Seafood Federation
Moderator: Kathrine Tveiterås, pro-rector of education at UiT The Arctic University of Norway.
Time: Friday, January 20th at 3.30 pm
Location: Tromsø library
