Pretty Young Thing

Watch trailer

We follow Frida and Selma as they start first year of high school, attending heavy parties with sexualised rituals to place themselves at the top of the status chain. Friendship, love and integrity is challenged and shared on social media.

Pretty Young Thing takes place at the Rosenholm gymnasium in the beginning of the school year. The fresh 1st class friends Frida and Selma join in on party rituals and sexualised games conducted by the elder students, hoping that will secure their position amongst the coolest at the school. But as this quest starts, their friendship and personal boundaries are challenged, and the chance of falling from fame to shame is short, especially when social media platforms are so easily accessed and exploited.

Director Tilde Harkamp chooses not to moralize from a grown-up perspective. Instead, she portrays a certain environment and lets the story and the characters speak for themselves. The mix of direct and intimate visuals mixed with a polished, distanced prettiness suits the young vibes of the film. The essential feelings it portrays is something also a broader audience can relate to.
