Juliette Binoche shines as an "undercover" cleaning lady in this human drama about unemployment, minimum wage and the dream of working your way up in society. Based on the true story of journalist Florence Aubenas.
Marianne is a successful author who registers as unemployed. She manages to fool the labor agency into giving her a job asa cleaner with a minimum wage. The plan is to write about her experiences, and hopefully make a change in society. While she is sent on various assignments such as cleaning toilets in a nightclub, changing bed sheets on a cruise ship and cleaning private kitchens, she forms a bond with several of her working-class colleagues, who know nothing about who Marianne really is. But what happens when the truth comes out?
Between Two Worlds is a women-driven film starring a wonderful Juliette Binoche and lots of equally charming and sympathetic women in supporting roles. The film is both a touching portrait of togetherness, and a critical look at how society often treats those who are lowest in the hierarchy. Based on the true story of Florence Aubena and her journalistic book «The Night Cleaner».
Emmanuel Carrère (b. 1957) is a French writer and director. Karl Ove Knausgård has hailed him as one of the world's most exciting authors. Between Two Worlds is his second film as a director.
