Kiruna Underground

A feel-good documentary from Kiruna about a skate community worth fighting for.

The local skate park, Rullhuset, is an inclusive meeting place for young and old in Kiruna. There, people can come as they are and experience a sense of freedom and identity. For many, Rullhuset is the very reason they want to stay in Kiruna. Now, the mine in the city is set to expand, which means that the entire Kiruna city center must be moved three kilometers east. The buildings that are not moved will be leveled to the ground. One of them is Rullhuset... So what will happen with the people who truly need it?

Kiruna Underground is an emotionally uplifting documentary about the power of community in a city undergoing literal upheaval. It captures the human side of Kiruna’s relocation with sensitivity and warmth, and turns it into a universal reflection on youth, place, and the need for continuity amid change. Its street aesthetics and grounded storytelling make it a film that rolls forward with courage and heart, even as the ground beneath it moves.
