The Think Tank is a philosophical documentary that follows the challenging work of transforming an old water tower into a unique space for contemplation and reflection, located out on the open sea on the windswept island of Røst.
The idea of transforming the old water tower on Røst was originally initiated by the late, beloved public intellectual Per Fugelli, but the project had to be cancelled when he became ill with cancer. Martin Otterbeck followed Per during the last year of his life as a photographer for the documentary Per Fugelli - siste resept (2018). It was also then that Martin first heard about Per’s visions for the old water tank. In this documentary, we follow the photographer and tank enthusiast Martin in his efforts to carry forward the deep, humanist ideas of Per and his wife Charlotte. Now, Martin, together with his friend and colleague Pål Thomassen, is set to breathe life into Per's dreams of transforming the old tank.
The Think Tank is a heartwarming documentary that explores the creative process itself, what the building can become, and what the newly transformed structure will mean for Røst, a weather-beaten island community at the outer edge of Lofoten. The film emphasizes the value of community, space for reflection, and contributing to something greater than oneself.
