To take the zombie genre a step further, we can trust a new director from South Korea to get the job done. Engaging characters, frightening effects and surreal situations will definitely make you laugh through this experimental comedy.
The Odd Family: Zombie on Sale revolves around the Park family, whose lives get disrupted after the elderly father gets bitten by a zombie. But the effect of this
bite is not what we traditionally associate with such attacks: the old
man seems to become a younger version of himself and his appetite for
life is suddenly at its peak again. When the family realizes the source of their father's newfound vitality, they decide to use their zombie friend to
make
money. Too good to be true? There is no such thing as a quick fix in
life, and things devolve into certain chaos.
In this zombie film, comedy is the basis of the story, mixed in with a large dose of family drama. In The Odd Family: Zombie on Sale, the crazy premises of the story are explored fearlessly through black humor. And the whole film embraces the basic recipe and the genre's natural starting point, with loads of gore and gross zombie scenes involved.
Lee Min-jae worked as an editor for Korean films like Man of Vendetta, The Longest 24 Months, A Good Day to Have an Affair and Just For You. It was his wife, a screenwriter, who pushed him to make his directorial debut. It took them almost 10 years to write the scenario together and to get the movie Zombie for Sale ready.
