Aurora lives a lonely and dull life, with a job that barely recognizes her as an actual human being. Can she escape her uneventful life with her sanity intact?
Aurora from Portugal works as a "picker" at a giant warehouse in Scotland. It's a monotonous and soulless job, under rather crummy and uninspiring working conditions. At home, there is not much to be happy about either. Aurora rents a room in a flatshare where the residents rarely see each other, and rarely interact with each other beyond a bit of awkward small talk while heating ready-made food in the microwave. Aurora's loneliness is palpable.
But maybe there is some light on the horizon. Kris from Poland moves in and seems like he's quite a social guy. And a possible job interview is coming up if she can only manage to get time out from the warehouse job. Will it be possible for Aurora to find meaning and contentment in her monotonous life?
On Falling is about how mechanical and isolated our modern lives can become. Scotland's bad winter weather emphasizes the hopelessness, and the film's colorless palette makes you want to hug your friends and family a little extra.
Laura Carreira (b. 1994) is a Portuguese director and screenwriter who studied film directing at the University of Edinburgh, where she still lives. She started her career making short films that have won several international film awards. On Falling is her first feature film.
