The French volcanologists Katia and Maurice loved each other and volcanoes. For two decades, the intrepid pair hunted for eruptions and documented their findings. This is a beautiful tribute to two daring explorers who ventured into the unknown - for the sake of love.
Katia and Maurice met when they were young and married shortly after. Together, the charming couple documented hundreds of hours of volcanic activity on film. They were knowledgeable and daring, but also very funny and good communicators. They traveled the world to observe and document active volcanoes and became known for their spectacular images of the enormous forces of nature – the same forces that would eventually cost them their lives.
Director Sara Dosa has created a poetic tribute to the brave and adventurous scientists, with clips taken from the couple's spectacular archive - accompanied by narrator Miranda July's poetic observations. This is a touching documentary about volcanoes and love, and a stunning visual experience. Katia and Maurice live on through the recordings from their many expeditions, and now we get to experience their exciting adventures.
