Everything must go

Watch trailer

When Ellen and her two brothers gather in their childhood home to sort through the inheritance left by their father, a renowned composer, old memories and unresolved conflicts resurface. The house, filled with musical traces and childhood artifacts, becomes a stage for emotional reckoning.

Everything Must Go is a family drama that blends humor, warmth, and melancholy to explore a family's confrontation with the past. Ellen, the dutiful and controlling eldest sister, tries to keep the process on track, but the past refuses to adhere to her orderly plan. The youngest brother, Carlo, also a composer, faces an existential crisis when confronted with their father’s legacy, while the middle brother struggles with personal losses and longings. At the same time, Ellen's teenage daughter, Anna, seeks solace in the music and memories of her grandfather, embodying both hope and the bridge to the future. Music is the emotional heartbeat of the film. Through the father’s compositions—brilliantly recreated by Thomas Dybdahl—we gain deeper insight into the family and their relationships.

This is a film not only about loss but also about discovery. The film captures the universal nature of sibling relationships through laughter, arguments, and cautious reconciliations. With a naturalistic approach and a tactile portrayal of the house and the small details of life, Everything Must Go delivers a profoundly relatable experience. This film will inspire audiences to reflect on their family ties, memories, and the importance of sorting through life’s baggage before it’s too late.
