Sirāt

Watch trailer

A striking audiovisual work by Oliver Laxe. One of the major award winners at this year's Cannes Film Festival.

A man and his son arrive at a rave deep inside the Moroccan mountains. They are searching for their daughter and sister, Marina, who disappeared several months ago at one of these endless parties. Surrounded by electronic music and a raw, alien feeling of freedom, they hand out her picture again and again. Although the hope of finding her gradually fades, they follow on to the next party – deeper into the desolate desert landscape.

Sirāt takes the audience on a suggestive psychological journey. The title refers to an Islamic concept of the narrow bridge that separates heaven from hell – where the slightest misstep can have fateful consequences. This reference also hints at the intense experience the film offers. Sirāt won the Jury Prize at Cannes – as well as the award for Best Composer and the Palm Dog Grand Jury award – making it one of the festival's big talking points.
