A delightful romantic comedy about a woman in mid-life who follows the selfish yearning to fall in love again.
Eva has been with her husband for 25 years – almost half her life - and has two children who are starting to become independent. During a business trip to Rome, an unexpected chemistry develops with her hotel room neighbor, Alex. Although she is not unfaithful to her husband, the encounter with Alex leaves a nagging feeling of "what if". Questions she hasn't dared to ask herself soon rise to the surface. Should she really never experience the intoxication of falling in love again? What would life be like if she left her husband and started anew?
My Friend Eva is a charming romantic comedy that does more than just entertain. The film raises questions that are as difficult to ask as they are to answer: Are we meant to stay in the same relationship for life? Is it right for everyone to choose security and commitment over passion? Director Gay comically portrays how challenging it can be to fall in love again in mid-life, once all of one's personal quirks have become established. There is no need to exaggerate for comic effect here – the humor springs from the realistic drama and the accurately captured characters.
