The Zone of Interest

Watch trailer

The Zone of Interest is a groundbreaking and thought-provoking exploration of one of history's darkest chapters.

Jonathan Glazer's critically acclaimed Holocaust drama takes us into the seemingly idyllic home of SS Commandant Rudolf Höss. The family's tastefully decorated villa and lush garden give the impression of harmony, but the film also reveals the profound denial on which this life is built: they live next to the Auschwitz concentration camp. The genocide committed there is presented through the film's emotive sound design, a dark backdrop to the family's bourgeois idyll. This is an emotionally charged film that captures the atrocities in a unique way.

The Zone of Interest is based on Martin Amis' novel of the same name, redefining what a Holocaust film can be. Glazer, one of Britain's most renowned filmmakers, has brought forth a sharp and well-played exploration of humanity's ability to deny even the most heinous crimes. Christian Friedel and Sandra Hüller's brilliant portrayals of the Höss couple give the film a chilling authenticity, and it was met with unanimous acclaim at Cannes.
