For this year’s TIFF, Tromsø Kunstforening welcomes you to a celebration of one of our region's most important contributors to the art and film scene – Nordland kunst- og filmhøgskole. The school in Kabelvåg is renowned for its critical approach towards traditional conventions within film and image production. It has existed in various forms since 1983 and a large number of practising artists and filmmakers in Norway have once been young students there.

Throughout its history, NKFS has experienced the repeated threat of being shut down. Finally, in December, 2021, the school won this longlasting battle and will now become part of the University of Tromsø. One thing has become evident during this long struggle – a strong solidarity among former and current students, staff and surrounding network, local inhabitants and politicians, and an irrepressible will to continue fighting for the school’s future.
We invite you to come celebrate this with us during the TIFF weekend, with a group show of four artists revisiting their graduation works, a screening program of student works from throughout the years and DJs straight outta Kabelvåg.
