Intercepted

Watch trailer

Thousands of phone calls from the front lines have been intercepted by Ukraine. Intercepted is a gripping documentary that combines powerful visuals of war-torn Ukraine with these intercepted calls from Russian soldiers to their families.

The calls range from casual discussions of violence to reflections on the war and deeply unsettling confessions. The film captures the stark contrast between the devastation in Ukrainian cities and the intimate, sometimes disturbing conversations between the soldiers and their loved ones. Director Karpovych avoids graphic depictions of violence, opting instead to show images of abandoned buildings and destroyed homes, set against the backdrop of Russian soldiers' voices. This juxtaposition underscores the human cost of war on both sides—Ukrainians persevering amid the ruins, and Russian soldiers grappling with their actions, often met with indifference or muted shock from their families. The stillness and calm of the imagery amplify the emotional impact of the conversations, inviting reflection on the personal and societal consequences of war.

With its unique approach, Intercepted is a sobering and thought-provoking documentation of the horrors of war and the deep emotional scars it leaves on both victims and perpetrators.
