In continuation of TIFF's Xn conference with the theme of music and film, we screen two of the projects involved. There will be a world premiere of IN SOMNIUM with Highasakite, and we will follow the story of Wachito Rico (Boy Pablo) in five episodes.
The musical short film In Somnium is a collaboration between director Arild Østin Ommundsen and the band HIGHASAKITE.
12-year-old Vilja sneaks out in the evening and we follow her through a night that starts with innocent trials, but which develops into a cross-border nightmare.
The film will have its world premiere at TIFF.
Wachito Rico: The 5-part Movie
Boy Pablo was catapulted from obscurity in 2017, when his dreamy indie track "Everytime" blew up on YouTube. The strangely soothing, lo-fi video, shot in Pablo’s hometown of Bergen, has now amassed over 40 million hits, cementing his career as a DIY pop sensation.
For his debut album in 2020, Boy Pablo also teamed up with filmmaker Eivind Landsvik and director duo Bedroom Projects to release a five-chapter visual album. Journeying through Pablo’s personal experiences of love, it’s a humorous montage, narrated by none other than Tiger King’s gravelly-voiced Rick Kirkham.
Arild Østin Ommundsen has a long career as a director. His debut film Mongoland helped start the Stavanger movement in Norwegian film. His films have won numerous awards both nationally and internationally.
Eivind Landsvik has made a name for himself as a music video director. His video for "Hey Girl" by Boy Pablo won the Golden Chair for best music video at the Short Film Festival last year.
