Director Teitur Magnusson makes his feature film debut with this subtle tale of an unexpected friendship. The film is complex with several scenes that mix both humor and seriousness. The scenic surroundings that only Iceland can offer are skilfully photographed as the film's beautiful backdrop.
Ever since Páll’s wife and daughter passed away, he has lived alone and isolated from society. His world is unexpectedly turned upside down when he befriends Elísabet, a victim of domestic abuse who takes refuge in his house. Elísabet is fascinated by Páll’s way of life and is eager to learn from him. However, when her abusive boyfriend turns up and repeatedly tries to force Elísabet to return home, Páll finds himself forced to face his own past as he steps between them.
Teitur Magnusson (b. 1989) has been making short films from an early age. In 2015 he enrolled into The Icelandic Film School and graduated two years later. Since then he’s worked on a number of original screenplays. Owls is his debut feature film as writer/director.
