The Gullspång Miracle

Watch trailer

What begins as an utterly incredible family reunion takes several abrupt turns and evolves into a dramatic tale of heritage and environment, family secrets, and our need for something to believe in – unlike anything you've seen before!

A sign from God prompts two Norwegian sisters, May and Kari from Lakselvdalen in Troms, to buy an apartment in the small Swedish town of Gullspång. The shock occurs when they meet the seller of the apartment: Olaug, as she is called, is strikingly similar to their older sister, who died 30 years earlier. Not only that, she was born on the same day as the deceased sister. Miracle or mystery – now the quest for truth in all the unexplainable begins.

Maria Fredriksson follows the sisters over several years, and the work on the film becomes an intricate detective work with significant emotional consequences. This astonishing and captivating documentary depicts a reality that surpasses fiction, and Fredriksson conveys it with warmth, keen insight, and humor.
