Tracks

In 1923, the Norwegian Parliament decided that a railway should be built in Troms. A hundred years later, many are still waiting.

At Olsborg, a small village two hours south of Tromsø, stands a railway station that doesn't exist on any map. 480 km further south, the railway line ends. Hilde Sagland built the station at Olsborg herself, complete with a waiting room, platform, and eight meters of track sourced from the Ofot Line, illuminating the area outside her house. Since retiring in 2011, Hilde has passionately championed a cause that has engaged Norwegians for over a hundred years: the Northern Norway Railway (Nord-Norgebanen).

Tracks follows Hilde over four years, through meetings, resistance, tailwinds, and creative initiatives in the name of the Northern Norway Railway. The fight for tracks in Troms and Finnmark is far from dead. The film portrays a dedicated activist who never gives up, and serves as an inspiring introduction to one of the country's most enduring political struggles.
