Gitti is on holiday with her boyfriend Chris at his parents’ summerhouse in Italy. To begin with they thoroughly enjoy the solitude and each others’ company under the Mediterranean sun.
After a few days however, it becomes apparent how the relationship struggles under the weight of Chris’ lack of selfconfidence and commitment phobia. He won’t say “I love you” and refuses any talk of moving in together.
Gitti on the other hand becomes more and more desperate for recognition and goes further and further in her attempts of getting some attention. It all takes a turn for the worse when an old friend of Chris’ invites them for dinner.
EVERYONE ELSE is an intense chamber-piece. The situations seem very familiar, but at there are surprises. The director’s sharp observation skills combine with unmatched direction, the actors turning in top performances (Birgit Minichmayer won the Silver Bear in Berlin for this role). EVERYONE ELSE challenges the viewer at every turn, and that isn’t easy – whether it is in the cinema or in real life.
